Our History
The Great Zimbabwe Marathon was established in 2021 with the aim of celebrating sporting excellence and Zimbabwe's ancient history. Held every second week of October in Masvingo, home to the world-renowned Great Zimbabwe Monument—a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the race has quickly become one of Zimbabwe's premier long-distance running events.
Now entering its 6th Anniversary year, the Great Zimbabwe Marathon has established itself as more than just a race—it is an annual celebration of endurance, tourism, and community pride. Each edition draws participants, sponsors, and spectators to Masvingo, injecting economic activity into the region and showcasing its unique cultural heritage.
